The Many Health Benefits of the Sun

It cannot be denied that too much exposure to the sun can lead to harmful consequences on the skin such as premature aging, sun spots, and even certain types of cancer. However, to say that sun exposure is totally harmful would be a great falsity. What most people today do not know is that the many health benefits of the sun still continue to hold true.

These benefits are largely attributable to the fact that the sun is the best and primary source of Vitamin D in our body. True to this, a number of studies have indicated that various diseases such as cancers and tumours can be prevented and even treated with adequate levels of this essential nutrient taken from the skin's exposure to the sun. Aside from this, Vitamin D also aids the body in absorbing calcium more efficiently, thus greatly helping in the formation of strong bones and teeth. Without it, the bones in our body can easily become brittle and weak. Additionally, the Vitamin D we get from the sun has been proven to prevent rickets in children and osteoporosis among adults as well.

On the other hand, an insufficiency of natural sunlight and Vitamin D are associated with such conditions as adrenal insufficiency, skin allergies, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and osteopenia, among many others. Thus, these benefits do not only work to provide us with better skin but they also help in protecting our bodies from various other illnesses.

Lastly, it is equally important to note that too much of something can be harmful. So, strive to get the most of the sun's healthy benefits without burning yourself from too much exposure. Like everything else, moderation is always the key.
